for the kids

It's a good way "to brighten up the evening, because hospital life is difficult." For Caroline and her daughter, Louise, 4, screenings organized by Les Toiles Enchantées (Magic Screens) provide a real breath of fresh air. Like every year, the association holds several screenings in hospitals during the Lumière festival. "We have been present since the first edition. It was important for Thierry Frémaux to bring films to an audience that cannot go to the movie theater," said Isabelle Svanda, President of Magic Screens.

Just like Wednesday's young audience at the Halle Tony Garnier, the young patients at the Woman-Mother-Child Hospital in Bron and the Centre Léon Bérard were able to see the animated film, The Iron Giant, directed by Brad Bird, on a cinema screen, the story of friendship between a boy and an alien creature made of metal. Thursday evening, it was time for the children hospitalized at the Centre Léon Bérard to follow the adventures of young "Hogarth," with a meal-tray screening. "My daughter had finished receiving her care, but she absolutely wanted to stay for the movie!" exclaimed Guellaf. Even if she's "a fan of horror movies," daughter Malek, 12, waited impatiently for the screening.

Before plunging into the poetic universe of the flick by the director of "Ratatouille," parents and children were able to exchange a few words with director Julie Bertuccelli, who had come to introduce the film. "As soon as Magic Screens calls me, I come. It is meaningful to come here and moreover essential for the Lumière festival to be involved in this kind of initiative."
